We are an amalgamated Air Transport  Local Lodge affiliated with IAM Districts 141, 142 & 143.  Local Lodge 1726  represents approximately 2000 active members and 300 retirees. Local 1726 represent members in the airline and service industries. Protecting your right to fair working conditions, pay, equality, safety and training are rated high among our priorities. The Machinists Union believes in playing an active role in the community, and local charities.

Current Membership: The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM) represents more than 500,000 active and 730,000 active and retired members. The IAM is the largest transportation union in North America representing more than 150,000 workers employed in the airline and railroad industries in the United States and Canada.

 

The IAM is the certified bargaining agent for approximately one hundred fifty (150) agreements covering national air carriers, national service companies, foreign flag carriers, commuters and airline servicing companies in the United States. The IAM also has collective bargaining agreements with fifty seven (57) rail carriers.  

 

Affiliations: The IAM is affiliated with the AFL-CIO (13.6 million members); Canadian Labour Congress (CLC) (2.2 million members); Railway Labor Executives’ Association; International Labor Organization; International Metalworkers Federation (12.6 million workers in 68 nations); International Transport Workers Federation (50 million workers, 81 nations).

 

Organizational Structure:  Workers belong to one of 1,163 IAM Local Lodges that typically represent employees at one or more local companies. In the Transportation sector, District Lodges represent workers nationwide on specific airlines. There are four airline Districts and one railroad district in the United States and one airline district in Canada. The District Lodges negotiate and administer the agreements with the carriers under their jurisdiction.  

 

Six territorial General Vice Presidents oversee IAM activities in Canada; in the Eastern, Midwestern; Southern, Western U.S. states and IAM Headquarters. The Vice President for Transportation administers the air transport and rail sectors nationwide. The General Vice Presidents, the International President and the IAM General Secretary-Treasurer constitute the IAM Executive Council, the top leadership body of the union.
